I’m Sam, and I run VaporWave Vehicle Services from Truro.
Before this, I worked as a fairer and painter at Pendennis Shipyard in Falmouth, preparing and finishing superyacht paintwork where a flaw you can see from three metres away is a flaw that gets redone. I then spent time at sea as a bosun on a large motor yacht, responsible for the exterior condition of a vessel worth more than most streets in Cornwall.
That is where my standards come from. Not a weekend course. Years of surface work where the finish was the entire job.
I trained at the Urban Valets Institute of Detailing to bring that discipline into vehicles properly: advanced machine polishing, ceramic coating application, and the paint-safe processes that protect a car rather than quietly damage it.
I don’t do rushed cleans. I bring deck standards to your driveway.
A Background Built For Trust
Superyacht Experience
Built foundations in superyacht maintenance aboard vessels up to 124m, including royal and show-standard yachts. Maintaining exterior finishes in harsh marine environments demanded precision and an obsessive eye for detail.
Yacht Painter & Refinisher
Worked as a professional yacht painter and refinisher at Pendennis Shipyard in Falmouth. Handled fairing, repair blending, polishing, and application of primers, topcoats, and anti-foul systems.
Automotive Refinishing
Trained and worked in vehicle paint and body repair, from panel prep and refinishing through to machine polishing and protection. That bodyshop discipline now informs paint corrections and protection work.
Private Estate Operations
Managed day-to-day operations on a Cornish estate, coordinating contractors, maintaining technical systems and managing a vehicle fleet. Confidentiality, safety and professional conduct became second nature.
Urban Valets Institute of Detailing
I trained at Urban Valets Institute of Detailing to develop my skills in professional detailing, machine polishing, ceramic coating application and high-standard vehicle care. That training helped shape the way I run VaporWave today: careful preparation, paint-safe methods, honest advice and a finish that feels considered rather than rushed.
